3 Days – EcoMagic Itinerary
PUERTO MALDONADO – LODGE
Start your journey arriving to Puerto Maldonado,where our staff will welcome you and provide the necessary information for your stay. Navigate by outboard motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción for approximately 25 minutes. Enjoy LUNCH with organic ingredients and native flavors. After lunch, take a walk through CONCEPCION TRAILS, inside property nature trails, where you will discover and learn about primary and secondary rainforest, its components, uses, transformations by the human being, and its relevance for the world. At dusk navigate by outboard motorized canoe, at the TWILIGHT RIVER excursion. By sailing on the Madre de Dios River, you will learn about its ecosystem, Amazonian creeks, nocturnal animals’ behavior, and the southern constellations. In the evening enjoy a nice DINNER in the Casa Grande´s dining room.
AM – LAKE APU VICTOR
New experiences are ahead and after taking a nutritious buffet BREAKFAST, get ready for a long trek through terra firma into the Tambopata National Reserve towards LAKE SANDOVAL. Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is called the biodiversity capital of Peru, while learning about the Reserve’s conservation efforts and the lake’s formation. Navigate by dugout canoe across this mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus), black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), and one of the world’s biggest fresh water scaled fish, the paiche (Arapaima gigas). Back to the lodge for LUNCH, and later the INKATERRA CANOPY WALKWAY & ANACONDA WALK await for you. Take a 20-minute ride by outboard motorized canoe to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center where you will learn about its construction and the conservation projects of ITA-Inkaterra Asociación (NGO). Ascend one of the two 98-foot towers (30 m.) and cross the 7 hanging bridges that connect the treetops at 91 ft. high (28 m). Enjoy the breathtaking vistas and get the chance to watch white-throated toucans (Ramphastos tucanus), woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis) and the three-toed sloth (Choleopus hoffmani). After descending keep on feeling the incredible primary rainforest energy going along the 200-meter wooden bridge over the swamps (aguajales). You will learn about the fauna and flora of this flooded ecosystem. At night get ready for an adventure during the RAINFOREST BY NIGHT excursion, where you will explore the Amazon rainforest that gives way to nocturnal animals who display intriguing behavior patterns, and enhanced senses as adaptation mechanisms. Listen to nocturnal living nature sounds, and penetrate this hidden world. End up your day with a pleasant DINNER.
After BREAKFAST buffet, take a ride back to Puerto Maldonado by outboard motorized canoe. Arrive at the Butterfly House where you may wait for your flight back home or to your next destination, while visiting this beautiful BUTTERFLY HOUSE and learning about the fascinating transformation of these colorful insects.
4 Days – EcoAventure Itinerary
PUERTO MALDONADO – LODGE
Welcome upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado. Transfer to Puerto Capitania for our 2 hours riverboat ride on the Madre de Dios River. During the journey we might encounter a variety of wildlife, including Ronsocos, Caimans, Turtles, Herons, Cormorants and other animal species. Once at the lodge and after lunch we will walk to the Caiman Cocha, a small lake with an abundant presence of specimens of Black Caiman (Melanosuchus Niger) and Caiman (Caiman Crocodilus). The end of the day will come to an end with a spectacular sunset in the Amazon, an intoxicating experience full overwhelming colors.
AM – LAKE APU VICTOR
The morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. After breakfast, we´ll start to hike towards the depths of the forest, on trails with bridges to cross gorges and rivers. During our walk we will observe the majestic Lake Apu Victor with its crystal clear waters, surrounded by marshes and giant trees. Afterwards, we´ll go up to the Observation Deck, from which we´ll enjoy a panoramic view on the lake, observing Parrots, Macaws, Toucans, Camungos, Shanshos, Herons, Caimans and Turtles. We might even get a glance at a Giant Otter, one of the rainforest´s most spectacular animals.
Free in the afternoon to enjoy the lodge and nearby attractions at your own pace.
AM – LOST COCHA
This morning we will journey into virgin rainforest towards the Lost Cocha, a refuge and feeding ecosystem for Otters, Caimans, Turtles, Sachavacas (Tapirs) Birds, the majestic Jaguar and a variety of fish species. Upon arrival we will have access to the extraordinary Observation Deck, from which we´ll be able to appreciate the immense and magical rainforest. Our morning adventure will end with a canoe ride around the lake before returning to the lodge for lunch.
PM – MONKEY ISLAND
In the afternoon we will visit Monkey Island, a unique place in the heart of Madre de Dios River. During the short hike, we will observe extraordinary landscapes sheltering a variety of monkey species such as Maquisapas, Capuchins, Small Lion Monkeys, Frailes, Cotos, Coati and Sloths.
After a restful night’s sleep and a farewell breakfast we will begin river journey back to Puerto Maldonado’s airport. Bon Voyage!!
