Day 1 - Lima

Lima Arrival after 3pm

Welcome to Lima! Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel in the beautiful area of Miraflores. If time permits, venture out and begin to explore Peru’'s amazing culture and cuisine.

Day 2 - Lima

Rise for breakfast and a morning guided tour of colonial and modern Lima. After lunch, we will experience the Inca’s legacy at the Larco Museum. Lastly, we will visit a classic Peruvian Tavern for a glass of Pisco Sour and traditional Peruvian petite bouchées.

Day 3 - Lima / Amazon

Lima to Pto. Maldonado - Fly before 9am

Fly to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival we will stop at the Lodge’s office in Puerto Maldonado where you can store any excess luggage. We will arrive to the lodge after a 20 minute drive and a 45 minute boat ride which offers beautiful views of exotic plants, birds and caimans. After dinner we will participate in an ecotourism lecture by a professional guide.

Day 4 - Amazon

After breakfast you can choose from several guided tours such as the exploring the wildlife at Lake Sandoval. Once at the lake we will paddle searching for Giant River otters, caimans, hoatzins and horned screamers. During the afternoon you can take an ethnobotanical tour that will expose you to botanical and medicinal wonders. After dinner you will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active.

Day 5 - Amazon / Cuzco

Pto. Maldonado to Cuzco - Fly before noon

Enjoy a walk around the lodge before traveling to Puerto Maldonado to board your flight to Cuzco. Upon arriving in Cuzco (11,152 ft.), you will be transferred to your hotel where you can spend the rest of the day exploring the city at your own pace.

Day 6 - Cuzco

Feel free to explore the city during the morning. In the afternoon we will enjoy a guided tour of Cuzco with its ancient cathedrals and amazingly crafted Inca walls. We will also visit Cuzco’s nearby ruins; Kenko, Tambomachay, Puka Pukara and Saqsaywaman.

DAY 7 - Cuzco (Sacred Valley)

Today we will explore the Sacred Valley (9,350 ft) and experience the rich colors of its traditional towns and ruins. Our first stop after a scenic drive will be Pisac'’s colorful market – a great opportunity to practice your bargaining skills! After lunch we will tour the town of Ollantaytambo and visit the site of the beautiful rose-colored stone ruins where the Incas fought the Spaniards. The serenity and quaintness of the town will allow you to relax and transition into the Inca’s magical world. Return to Cuzco in the early evening.

Day 8 - Cuzco / Machu Picchu

Early morning transfer to board the train to Machu Picchu (7,875 ft.). This scenic trip offers great views of the mountains, river and sometimes a glance of the awesome Condor. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes we will begin our Machu Picchu tour. After the guided excursion you can continue to explore the Machu Picchu at your own pace or return to the town of where you can enjoy a relaxing evening or shop at the local market.

Option ($275): Hike a portion of the Inca Trail for a day and arrive to Machu Picchu through the Gate of the Sun. Tour of Machu Picchu would be the next day.

Day 9 - Machu Picchu / Cuzco

Free day to return to Machu Picchu and continue exploring the sanctuary or hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. We will return to Cuzco by train later in the afternoon.

Day 10 - Cuzco / Lake Titicaca

Travel via tourist bus from Cuzco to Puno (12,421 ft.) which sits at the edge of Lake Titicaca. Along the way we will have several stops, including Andahuylillas, Racchi and Pucara.

Upgrade ($290): Travel aboard the “Andean Explorer” train by Orient Express - a 5 stars train experience. Available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays all year plus Saturday between April and October.

Day 11 - Lake Titiaca

Today you will tour Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest lake navigable to large vessels. First you will visit the Uros Indians’ floating reed island (built on layers of totora reeds). The Uros still live as their ancestors did a thousand years ago. Then you will continue towards Taquile Island. This remote island is a remarkable community where Quechua, the language of the Incas, is kept alive by the islanders. The outstanding highlight of its inhabitants is their handicraft derived from techniques developed over centuries. Return to Puno in the late afternoon.

Day 12 - Lake Titicaca / Lima

Juliaca to Lima - Fly after 1pm

If time permits, we will stop at the Sullistani Tombs for a guided tour before arriving to the airport for your flight to Lima.

Important Notice: Actual day-by-day itineraries may vary from those shown in order to take advantage of local sightseeing options, trains or flight schedules changes, or other unforeseen events.

Train to or from Machu Picchu: From May to December, train from Cuzco to Machu Picchu and back will depart from Poroy station (about 20 minutes from downtown Cuzco). For the period between January and April, trains will depart from Pachar station, about 1.5 hour from Cuzco. Transfers are included for both options and total travel time is about the same.

The Machu Picchu Quest itinerary is also best for somebody that has limited time. If your flight or cruise arrives in Lima early in the morning, itinerary 5B would be a good alternative. Both itineraries include an overnight near Machu Picchu and passes to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain.

Machu Picchu Express itineraries are great if you have limited time and do not mind enjoying a Machu Picchu tour only for the day – itinerary 3A. If your return flight home departs from Lima after 10 PM, itinerary 3B could be a better choice. Both adventures will delivery a fun but quick visit to the Inca’s Sanctuary.

Our 4 days Machu Picchu tours are perfect for a quick visit to the ruins. Itinerary 4A is best if you have limited time. If your flight or cruise arrives in Lima before 8:00 AM, itinerary 4B would be a better alternative. 4C is a great choice as it includes several “must see locations”, but it requires changing hotels daily.
