Machu Picchu Sanctuary Hours of Operation
- The Machu Picchu Sanctuary is located at the top of a small mountain next to the village of Aguas Calientes.
- All the available hotels except for the Sanctuary Lodge are located at the village.
- The Machu Picchu sanctuary is open from 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM (last admission at 4:00 PM).
- There is a mini bus service from the village to the entrance of Machu Picchu that runs daily every 15 minutes from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The last mini-bus back to the village is at 5:30 PM.
Wayna Picchu Climb
Wayna Picchu or Huayna Picchu (Quechua: "Young Peak") is a mountain in Peru around which the Urubamba River bends. It rises over Machu Picchu, the so-called "lost city of the Incas" and divides it into sections. The Incas built a trail up the side of the Wayna Picchu and built temples and terraces on its top. The peak of Wayna Picchu is about 2,720 metres (8,920 ft) above sea level, or about 360 metres (1,180 ft) higher than Machu Picchu.
- Only 400 visitors per day are allow to climb Wayna Picchu.
- There are two sessions (200 hikers each). The first at 8:30 AM and the second at 10:00 AM.
- Must of the 400 spaces are gone by 7:30 AM.
- The location of the gate to sign-up for the hike is at the far end of the Machu Picchu ruins.
- Wayna Picchu is a very strenuous hike.
