Catch all the "must see" Peru destinations in one delightful tour. Travel to Peru's uniquely different regions enjoying in-depth tours of important Inca sites like Machu Picchu, amazing mountain scenery, the biodiversity of the Amazon and its colorful indigenous people. Tour highlights: Lima, Amazon Basin, Cuzco, the Sacred Valley's Pisac Market and Ollantaytambo, Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu.
Upon arrival in Lima you will be transferred to your hotel in the famous Miraflores neighborhood. If time permits, feel free to explore Lima at your own pace.
During the morning you will enjoy a guided tour of Lima. In the afternoon we will visit the Larco and Archeological museums (Gold Museum on Mondays). Evening to relax before your flight to Puerto Maldonado early tomorrow morning. (B)
Fly to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival we will stop at the Lodge's office in Puerto Maldonado where you can store any excess luggage. We will arrive to the lodge after a 20 minute drive and a 45 minute boat ride which offers beautiful views of exotic plants, birds and caimans. At the lodge you can enjoy great views of the Amazon from the Canopy tower. After dinner we will participate in an ecotourism lecture by a professional guide. (B, L, D)
After breakfast you can choose from several guided tours such as the "Tres Chibadas Oxbow Lake". Once at the Lake we will paddle around the lake in a catamaran searching for Giant River otters, caimans, hoatzins and horned screamers. You can also choose to observe dozens of parrots and parakeets licking clay by the river. During the afternoon you can take an ethnobotanical tour that will expose you to botanical and medicinal wonders. After dinner you will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active. (B, L, D)
Enjoy a walk around the lodge before traveling to Puerto Maldonado to board your flight to Cuzco. Upon arriving in Cuzco (11,152 ft.), you will be transferred to your hotel where you can spend the rest of the day exploring the city at your own pace. (B)
Feel free to explore the city during the morning. In the afternoon we will enjoy a guided tour of Cuzco with its ancient cathedrals and amazingly crafted Inca walls. We will also visit Cuzco's nearby ruins; Kenko, Tambomachay, Puka Pukara, Saqsaywaman. (B)
Today we will explore the Sacred Valley (9,350 ft.) and experience the rich colors of its traditional towns and ruins. Through the scenic countryside we will make our way to the town of Pisac to visit the town's colorful market. After lunch we will tour the town of Ollantaytambo. Here, you will visit the site of the beautiful rose-colored stone ruins where the Incans fought the Spaniards. Return to Cuzco in the late afternoon. (B, L)
Early train to Machu Picchu (7,875 ft.). During the trip you will enjoy great views of the mountains, river and sometimes a glance of the awesome Condor. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes you will begin a guided tour of Machu Picchu. We will descend to Aguas Calientes in the late afternoon where you can enjoy a relaxing evening. (B)
Free day to return to Machu Picchu or explore nearby areas such as the famous Machu Picchu mountain. You might want to wake up early and take some pictures from the Puerta del Sol at Machu Picchu. Today is also a great opportunity to climb Wayna Picchu (reservation and pass included). In the afternoon you will return by train/bus to Cuzco. Transfer to your hotel upon arrival in Cuzco. (B)
Travel via tourist bus from Cuzco to Puno (12,421 ft.) which sits at the edge of Lake Titicaca. Along the way we will have several stops, including Andahuylillas, Racchi and Pucara. You also can travel aboard the "Andean Explorer" train by Orient Express for an additional $150/person. (B, L)
Today you will tour Lake Titicaca, the world's highest lake navigable to large vessels. First you will visit the Uros Indians' floating reed island (built on layers of totora reeds). The Uros still live as their ancestors did a thousand years ago. Then you will continue towards Taquile Island. This remote island is a remarkable community where Quechua, the language of the Incas, is kept alive by the islanders. The outstanding highlight of its inhabitants is their handicraft derived from techniques developed over centuries. Return to Puno in the late afternoon. (B, BL)
If time permits, we will stop at the Sullistani Tombs for a guided tour before arriving to the airport for your flight to Lima. Bon Voyage!!! (B)
